Mid Semester Break and Fall Fest

St. Lawrence University

Everybody thinks something different when it comes to fall- changing leaves, crisp weather, wool sweaters, or a hot cup of cider. Here at SLU, all of those things are FALL. But it's certainly not limited to just that. Mid- semester break falls right at the most wonderful time in fall- right before if gets really cold but late enough that every color leaf is still perched on their limbs, waiting for the perfect moment to fall. Students get four glorious days to go and do whatever they choose- head back home, stay on campus, or- if you choose- go on an adventure!

This past mid-semester break I co-led a trip with the Outing Club to go canoe on Lake Temagami in Ontario, Canada. Nineteen people participated in the trip and we had so much fun! We canoed to this beautiful secluded island where we set up camp, built fires, cooked good food, and spent some serious quality time together. I got to know people better who I didn't know as well before, which was great. We went on day trips exploring the area and even made rainy days fun days. We left this group pronounced "Awesome Land" behind us on Day 4 with a smile and an excitement for the week ahead.

This past weekend was another super fall, super fun event; also sponsored by the Outing Club. Every fall, we host an Autumn fest for the whole campus- it's held during the day on the campus quad right by the student center and is one of my favorite, community oriented, wholesome events we put on. There are horse and buggy rides around campus, doughnut eating off strings, pumpkin carving, pie eating contests, and apple cider making. While all this is going on, a local band- made up of an assortment of students and town residents- plays upbeat songs and creates a mood of lightheartedness and happiness.

As much fun as the last two weeks were, the coming one seems like its going to be even better. Halloween climbing competition and the Outing Club Halloween Party are sure to be a ton of fun! Till next time...
