Senior Year!!!

St. Lawrence University

Ahh, a new year has begun and with it comes the slight sensation of foreboding. With the last year of college comes an odd mix of emotions- fear, excitement, confusion. What will I be doing after graduation? Grad school? Exploration? Senior year is, in essence, the last opportunity to configure a plan for the rest of your life while still being comfortably protected by both school and family. So, I have taken it upon myself to live this year to the fullest. Adventuring to places and experiencing things that I would never have considered in the past. Two weeks of school have come and gone and here's what they've held for me...

Senior year began with pre-orientation trips. Four days adventuring in the woods-and on Lowe's Lake- with a co-leader and five new freshman getting ready to enter their first year of college. We canoed, swam, and met some great people along the way. Since then I've gotten into the rythm of classes, gotten to know the new members of my house- the Outing Club, and spent a lot of time outside.

Last Saturday I adventured to the Adirondacks with my good friend Kelly and did some climbing at the Beer Walls. We even did a little orienteering along the way. This past Saturday I went on 30 mile bike ride to Lampson Falls- one of the most beautiful waterfall and swimming areas in the North Country. Biking is one of the best ways to experience this area and get in shape at the same time (plus an excuse to get outside and stay out of the gym!).

This next week is definitely going to be a busy one- I begin work on my geology senior thesis, start my lab job in the geology department, and prepare to compete in the Adirondack 90 mile canoe classic race that will run from Friday to Sunday. As always, never a dull moment at SLU! Till next time..
