Almost Thanksgiving!

It is a busy time at St. Lawrence as we prepare for thanksgiving break. I just finished taking an exam and now it's on to writing papers for my other classes. The past week has been very busy here as everyone is trying to tie up loose ends before we all leave for thanksgiving break.

At the Green House we are putting on a panel tonight called The Colors That Comprise "Green": Race, Socioeconomics, and the Environment. This is a panel discussion that we have been planning for a long time. It is an FYP Cup eligible event, and we have advertised it to many environmental, global studies, biology, fyp, and other related classes. We even have some Canton High School students who are planning to come. We believe that these three topics: race, socioeconomics, and the environment are very much related and we are hoping to spark a discussion about this on campus. We have 5 panels who are all students at St. Lawrence. One member of our house will be a moderator asking the panelists questions and then opening it up to the audience for discussion. We have a range of backgrounds coming to the panel discussion and we hope to get a good conversation started. If you are student here at SLU, come check it out tonight at 7pm in the Winston Room.

This past weekend the Outing Club had the annual Mustache Ride. All of the young men on campus have been growing their mustaches and on Friday did their celebratory bike ride around campus. Many ladies also put on fake mustaches to participate in the event. That night the Outing Club hosted the Mustachio Bashio to celebrate the Mustache Ride. This past Thursday night there was an event on campus called Go Beyond. This was an event to raise awareness about sexual violence. There was a strong participation of students, and we also had a guest speaker Dorothy Edwards of the Green Dot project. This was a very powerful performance.

There still isn't any snow here yet, but I am hoping I will get some in Maine over thanksgiving break.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Katie
