Mid Semester Break

Greetings!

It's Monday and everyone just returned form mid semester break. Last week everyone was hustling around campus studying for mid-terms, submitting papers, and trying to get everything accomplished before the break began.

I left Wednesday afternoon and drove the 6.5 hours to my home in New Hampshire. I spent most of the weekend relaxing at home and spending time with my sister and mom. On Friday we went apple and pumpkin picking at a local farm. I had been wanting to go apple picking all fall at St. Lawrence, but for some reason hadn't gone yet. We brought the apples back home and made apple crisp to have for desert that night with Vanilla Ice Cream. Laster that day we went to go see the movie Where The Wild Things Are on the opening day. Below is a picture of my older sister, Teddy, eating an apple while we were apple picking.

My sister just left yesterday for a year abroad in New Zealand, so I spent Saturday helping her finish up packing and doing some homework before Sunday. On Sunday I drove to Boston and dropped my sister off at Logan International Airport, and she was off for a great Adventure. I just received an e-mail from her This afternoon saying that she arrived safely.

There is a lot going on this week at St. Lawrence, including a Autumn Festival put on by the Outing Club on Friday night. At the greenhouse we are going to do a program for the Festival. There will be lots of events going on including pumpkin carving, a chain-saw artist, apple cider pressing, donut on a string, and many other fall time activities. We might even bring a bunch of leaves for some leaf jumping! There is also a local band playing at Java, the student run music venue on campus, this weekend. I'm off to make some black bean burgers for greenhouse dinner tonight. Tune in next week for a summary of this weeks events at SLU!
