The Adirondacks = Our Backyard
Hello, everyone!
What a busy summer this has been...it is very hard to believe in just a few weeks students will be arriving on campus.
Even though we're very busy here in Payson, we did take some time to have fun and enjoy what the region has to offer during the summer. A few weeks ago, fellow admissions counselor Sara Kent and I ventured to nearby Lake Placid for a day trip with our six fabulous student summer interns. We drove a SLU van and made the 1.5 hour trip to eat lunch, go for a hike, and explore the village. The weather cooperated (for the most part) and everyone had a great time.
As you can see, parking the big 13 passenger SLU vans can be problematic in small parking spaces. We did it, though!
We decided to eat lunch at "The Cottage", which is one of my favorite spots in the village and on Mirror Lake. While we waited for a table, we got a group shot of the interns:
As you can see, lunch was delicious.
The picture of the nachos below makes me laugh -- with all of the hands going for the food!
Here's the view of Mirror Lake and the high peaks from our table (yes, you can eat outside!)
After lunch, we drove about five miles to the trailhead to climb nearby Mt. Jo. It's a really easy day hike...it only takes about 40 minutes to reach the summit. The views are spectacular given Mt. Jo is such a quick hike! (If you are in the area and want to take a very short trip and do a relatively "easy" and short hike, Mt. Jo is your answer!) Here is some info on Mt. Jo and how to get there: http://www.summitpost.org/mountain/rock/154479/mt-jo.html
You can see that we barely made it to the top in time, the rain clouds were right behind us in the picture.
Until next time...
John
