March Madness!!!

Spring Break is only a few days away and I’m happy to say that I won’t be going home or to some exotic destination. Instead I will be going with my basketball team to New Jersey to continue taking part in this year’s Division 3 basketball tournament. This past weekend we were fortunate to be able to host the first two rounds of the NCAA tournament in Burkman gymnasium and it was a weekend which I’ll never forget. The weekend before we had lost in the championship game of the Liberty League tournament so we did not get the automatic bid for the NCAA tournament. The following 36 hours were difficult for me as I did not know whether my collegiate playing days were over or not. We knew we had a good chance to get an at large bid because of our strong record during the season but it was all up in air. On Monday morning our team sat together and listened to the announcements of the teams that would be in this year’s tournament. Not only did we find out that we would be participating in the national tournament but we would also be playing at home for one more weekend. This was great news for me and my teammates, because not only would I be able to continue my collegiate playing days but I would get to do it on our home court. It was chance to have my last home game end on a better note than the weekend before.

Sweet 16 When it came time for tip-off on Friday night against Brooklyn College I knew that something special was going to take place because of all the support that we received from the campus and community. The crowd filled the gym in a sea of red and deafened the gym by the end of the night with cheers. I had never experienced anything like it and we were glad to be able to deliver two victories for all our fans. Winning both games this weekend has moved us into the “Sweet 16”, there are now only 16 teams left in the national tournament. We will be going to Richard Stockton College in New Jersey this weekend, where we hope to continue our run in the NCAA tournament. Our game will be available to view online at 8pm on Friday night.
