Thanksgiving

Hello, readers!

The theme of my post this week:  "A random assortment of campus updates."

In the admissions office, we are all busily reading Early Decision applicants.  For those of you who applied to SLU Early Decision, you should expect a decision letter in mid-December.  If you are just realizing that SLU is your #1 choice and want to pursue Early Decision, you are still in luck - we have a second Early Decision deadline, which is January 15th.  Call our office if you have questions!

Since Thanksgiving is right around the corner, campus is fairly quiet.  Some students are still on campus, but many are off visiting family and friends for Turkey Day.
Did you know that St. Lawrence students can enjoy two Thanksgiving dinners on campus before they even head home?   Every year, our outstanding Dining Services puts on a Thanksgiving theme dinner for the campus community in mid November, and before that, a Canadian Thanksgiving theme dinner in October!  Here's a link to the upcoming theme dinners:  Dining Services Theme Dinners

Onto the weather:  While Central and Western New York currently is enjoying (or not enjoying) quite a bit of snow, it's all rain here in Canton.  Visitors to campus are often surprised when they hear we typically do not receive the volume of snow you'll see in Syracuse, Rochester, and Buffalo.  For those of us who aren't huge fans of snow pre-Thanksgiving, it's nice to know we are north of the lake effect snow belt region!

Updates on our website:

  • Our Department of Fine Arts recently launched a new website.  It is definitely worth looking at.  You can browse several informative blogs and samples of student work.  Check it out:  Department of Fine Arts
  • For those of you thinking of pursuing international study at St. Lawrence, I recently stumbled upon two St. Lawrence blogs written by students currently studying in Spain and France.  (Note: they are written in Spanish and French).  SLU students in Spain and SLU students in France
  • Bela Vonnak '09 and Shaunie Cadieux '12 are new student bloggers.  Be sure to check out their blogs, and our other student bloggers here

I've saved the biggest update on campus to conclude my post:  SLU has officially elected William Fox '75 as our 18th President!

Happy Thanksgiving,
John
