saint lawrence

Hi, Blake:'
I'm the father of a boy from San Diego who is being heavily recruited to play soccer at Saint Lawrence. I was scanning the college's web site and saw the student blogs and am interested in getting feedback about how difficult it is for a California kid to adjust to the weather and small-school atmosphere there. Everything I see about the college is incredibly impressive -- financial aid, academics, student morale -- but I'm just worried about the cultural adjustment of a kid going from laid-back San Diego (although he's anything but laid-back on the soccer pitch) where he's only worn a suit and tie a couple days in his life to a school that I surmise has a lot of East Coast preppies.
I'm not being condescending about East Coast kids or the weather, I'm just trying to see if my kid fits in. I.E. it wouldn't make any sense to send him to Purdue around a bunch of engineering geeks because that isn't what my kid is interested in.
Also, if you could tell me how you travel to California and your parents travel there to visit you. Via Canada? Saint Lawrence seems very hard and expensive to get to and we are not a wealthy family.
My boy's soccer coach attended Saint Lawrence and played on a national championship team there and raves about the school and coach Durocher. Any nuggets of information you could provide would be very helpful.
