SLU Squirrels

A quick update from the road:

Greetings!  Today, I technically am not "on the road", as I have 1.5 days in Canton between recruiting trips.  I have to say, the one downside to the admissions staff traveling in the Fall is that we miss the most beautiful time of year in the North Country.  The colorful leaves, the mums, the pumpkins...how can anyone not appreciate autumn in Northern New York?  On my walk to work this morning, I snapped a picture of the foliage on campus:

Autumn is right around the corner...

The academic year has begun!  So many updates to share....

On Sunday, August 23rd (it already seems like such a long time ago!) the Class of 2013 received a warm welcome to campus.  You could feel all of the energy and excitement in the air.  Take a look at photos of Orientation here:  http://www.stlawu.edu/albums/orientation09/
The weather was unfortunately not cooperating on Sunday, hence why you'll notice the Matriculation ceremony (one of many SLU traditions) was held indoors this year.

The Adirondacks = Our Backyard

 Hello, everyone!

What a busy summer this has been...it is very hard to believe in just a few weeks students will be arriving on campus.

It (finally) feels like summer in Canton!

Greetings!

It has been a while since my last post; so much has happened in the past few weeks!  We bid adieu to the Class of 2009 in late May - hard to believe it has already been a month since graduation.

Summer has officially arrived in Canton!  A few of my favorite things on and around campus in the summertime:

- Obviously, everyone in Canton is embracing the nice weather!  Yesterday was the first day people (including myself) were complaining of the humidity.

April Showers Bring May Flowers...

One topic EVERYONE in Canton and the North Country talks about all the time = the weather.  Why?  Because it's always changing!  At our last  Admissions event,  the rain would not go away; scarlet and brown umbrellas dotted the entire campus.  Here's a picture I took of some umbrellas drying off in the admissions lobby:

What a busy, exciting and stressful time it has been the past few weeks here in Payson Hall!

Our Fabulous Student Workers

Seasons Greetings!

I'd like to dedicate this post to our incredible 70+ (too many to count!) student workers as our office becomes busier and busier with application pieces filling our mail buckets.  Our office would have a difficult time functioning without their dedication and hard work.  (Note to future students:  the admissions office is a great place to work if you want a campus job!)  In fact, we are currently advertising to current First Years, sophomores and juniors to apply for the position of "Admissions Ambassador."

Thanksgiving

Hello, readers!

The theme of my post this week:  "A random assortment of campus updates."

In the admissions office, we are all busily reading Early Decision applicants.  For those of you who applied to SLU Early Decision, you should expect a decision letter in mid-December.  If you are just realizing that SLU is your #1 choice and want to pursue Early Decision, you are still in luck - we have a second Early Decision deadline, which is January 15th.  Call our office if you have questions!

What is Unique About St. Lawrence?

Hello everyone!

The title of my long-overdue post is a question I have been asked several times by high school students while traveling across the country this fall.
