Summertime... Jambo Kenya

It is extremely hard for me to believe that this semester is already over.  I am home now after the spring semester, senior week and graduation.  I am enjoying just over a week at home, in Bemus Point, NY, before heading off to Kenya for a month.

Crunch Time

So you may have thought I dropped off the face of the planet because my blog has not been updated in forever.  Well, sorry to frighten you.  I am alive and busy as always.  Also, I did have one other blog entry up, but we changed soft

Contemporary Issues Forum & Hiring

Just moments ago, I attended the Contemporary Issues Forum for this week. The speaker was St. Lawrence alumna and member of the Board of Trustees, Elinor Tatum. The title of the discussion was "Community Newspapers in the Era of Obama." Tatum is the Publisher and Editor in Chief of the New York Amsterdam News, one of the oldest black newspapers in the country. The talk was very interesting and I was especially enthralled because of my interest in journalism.

Birthday and Townhouses

So as I said in my last post Monday was my 21st birthday!  I had a blast and really enjoyed to company of my friends!  I had a busy day with classes and also doing tours because it was a visit day.  It was President's Day, so a lot of high schools were not in session.  We had tons of visitors on that day, I did a large group tour with Bela and also met some great kids at lunch at Dana.  In the evening my friends surprised me with a cake, balloons and a little party.  It was a lot of fun!  We even went to the Hoot Owl, a local bar, for

Community Assistant

Ugh.... this is unfortunately the fifth time I have attempted to write this post. I now know to save early and save often. Also, I have been ill over the past week or so and have fallen behind on my blog. I am going to attempt to give a highlight reel of some of the cool things that I have done in the past few weeks, since I first updated this semester. I also have some time right now because it is Friday and I am on duty tonight as a Community Assistant.

Back Home

So after an amazing semester in Denmark, I arrived home on December 18th.  I flew from Copenhagen to Newark, NJ and then to Buffalo, NY.  It was great to see my parents waiting in the airport for me after being away for the whole semester.  Yet, it once again felt bittersweet to leave behind a country that has become so dear to me.  I must admit for the first few days back I experienced both jet lag and slight "reverse culture shock."  Something as simple as traveling to the grocery store seemed strange when the clerk behind the register asked me a question...

The Last Bittersweet Week

Since my last post so much has occurred so I will do my best to update you on it all. I cannot believe that this adventure is already coming to an end.

The "J" in J-Day Apparently Does Not Stand for Josh

N2415699_35128496_4441         Last week I was lucky enough to be apart of a yearly tradition here in Copenhagen called "J-Dag."  This day is very important in Copenhagen and marks the beginning of the Christmas season.  J-Dag, means Jule Day or Christma

Election Abroad

This has been the first national election in which I could vote.  This is also the first national election I have experienced in another country.  So, needless to say it has been very exciting and interesting.  The Danes are also very interested in our election.  In the days preceding November 4th, if a Dane found out you were American, the first thing they would immediately say is "What do you think about the election?"  Many would even ask who you were voting for.  It was clear how much our election matters to the Danish people and Europeans in general.  It has been rea
