Trinity College

Description:
Here is a link to Trinity College/Library. I really like the clarity of the front page. You know right away if you are looking for a book or electronic resource via database or title.

how to videos and highlighting "Journal Indexes and Databases" link!

Description:
I think it would be very helpful to have "how to" short videos or text for students to figure out how to get around library links and other software like ref works. Personally i think the colors of the current website are kind of dull, so using more interesting colors and pictures will really motivate the students to visit the site more often! Also finding space on the main page and squeezing in the "Journal Indexes and Databases" would be an upper!, or maybe highlighting the link or even making it big enough to see would be great!!.

Chicago Manual of Style on line

Description:
I think the library should subscribe to the online version of the Chicago Manual of Style. The current link and the one page handout from the writing center only provide limited example without sufficient explanation.

Pop up Polls

Description:
The Colby College website makes use of pop up polls after you click on a specific link. For example, I clicked on Help with Assignments and a pop up poll asked me to pick the best name for this link. Spontaneous feedback when you're unsure you presented something in the best way. Kind of nice.

HOW DO I...drop down box

Description:
I like the HOW DO I... drop down box Hobart William Smith uses on its library homepage.  This might be a good way to present library tutorials - as answers to HOW DO I questions.

Current news and hours

Description:
A spot on the opening library page for current ever changing information, i.e., hours during spring break, a link to our newest acquisitions (perhaps), publicizing open workshops to learn how to use search databases, welcoming new librarians or library staff, etc...

Columns and maps

Description:
I like how Reed has everything arranged in columns, which makes finding what you need easier. It's also nice that they have a map of the library, a feature which some students here might find helpful.

Likes and Dislikes

Good layout and color scheme

Description:
I really like the library website of Colgate University. The color scheme would look appropriate for SLU. They've put their primary resources and search right on the first level page. I like the colors and styling of their Innovative Interfaces, Inc. OPAC as well.

Too Much Text!

Description:
I particularly don't like pages that look just liked typed pages of information with tons and tons of text. Very boring and old-fashioned.

Just create a menu with "logout" as the link and it will create a link that only shows up for users who are logged in....

_______________  the info below should be unneccessary

Need to add one...that only appears next to "About Us" (ideally) if someone is already logged in.

These menu items and URLs are created in the panels_popups module.  There are several lines around lines 54-59 that hard code parts of the text and URLs.

panel_popups.module contains code for making the links to the Research, Services, and About Us pages at approximately lines 54-57 (they are commented).  None of this code is appropriate for a module intended for public release.  The first 2 lines are sort of appropriate for this particular application.  The third line (that makes the About Us link point to /about) is really inappropriate but is necessary because the "about us" page already had "/about" for its url instead of "/about_us".  Could think about changing this at some point.

bullets in popups

bullets in the Research popup are gone, and links turn bold when hovered upon.  This matches the front page.

Note that the front page does not match the services and about pages, and the research popup does not match the services and about popups.  Consider whether these should be harmonized.

change the color of the background for the main section in themes/ubiquity/images/wrapperbg-right.png.

If you think you'll ever use left sidebar or both sidebars, also change the color of the background in wrapperbg-left.png and wrappebg-both.png.  I believe wrapperbg-none.png is only used in the administrative interface, so not as important.
