Rare Book Collections
St. Lawrence University Libraries
Although Owen D. Young Library owns a number of truly rare books, most of our 7,000 titles are specialsubject collections. For this reason, visitors are as likely to find an in-print copy of a current book on the Adirondacks in our special collections as they are a leaf from an illuminated manuscript. Areas of focus in our book collections are:
- Irving Bacheller
- Marietta Holley
- Adirondack Mts region
- Canadian Rebellion of 1837
- Book arts & private press
- Robert Frost
- Frederic Remington
- St.
Lawrence River
- Nathaniel Hawthorne
- Edwin Arlington Robinson
- North Country authors & imprints
- Universalism
- Arctic voyages and exploration
- War of 1812 pamphlets
- Ornithological books & prints
Books housed in Special Collections are listed in ODYsseus, our online catalog, with the notation ODY Special Collections in the location area. They do not circulate. Print bibliographies are available of the Frost, Robinson, and Hawthorne collections. Please contact us if you would like one sent to you.
