Interlibrary Loan: General Information

Who Is Eligible

  • St. Lawrence University faculty, students, and staff are eligible to use interlibrary loan services.  Residents of St. Lawrence County who have a valid St. Lawrence University Libraries borrower’s card may also use our interlibrary loan services.
  • Students, faculty, and staff who are with one of the area’s Associated Colleges should use the interlibrary loan services provided by their institution.

Requesting Books and other Materials

  • First search Connect NY, a catalog of 14 New York academic libraries, for the book you want, and make direct requests for books in Connect NY from the Request this Item link. Connect NY requests are delivered in 2-3 days.
  • For books not in Connect NY and other materials, make requests through ILLiad, our other online interlibrary loan system. Delivery time for these materials is generally two to ten days.

Requesting Articles and ISSN numbers

  • For all article requests use ILLiad. You will need to have information for the article you want from the citation you’ve found.
  • An ISSN number is an eight number code that is often on an article citation. Providing the ISSN number in a request can significantly increase the speed of the delivery of the article.  ILL requests from the   page are filled out automatically with ISSN numbers.
