Friends Contribution to the Libraries' Collections

The Friends buy books to support the SLU Libraries Special Collections and academic departments. Owen D. Young Library is developing research collections on Nathaniel Hawthorne, Robert Frost, Frederic Remington, and the book arts. In addition, it maintains extensive collections on the Adirondacks and the North Country, enhanced by the Friends' donation of a 73-volume limited edition of Jesuit Relations. All these materials are house in a temperature and humidity controlled environment with special security measures to ensure that they will be present, in usable form, for scholars of future generations as well as those today. These collections have been built solely with Friends money, freeing the library budget to support a greater number of general purchases.

The Friends also help academic department book buying budgets by assisting, in coordination with the University Librarian, with the purchase of important books, sets, or series.
