Responsibilities include:
- Serves as first point of contact for all circulation, reserve, directional and research inquiries
- Checks in, checks out and renews books, videos, government documents and reserve materials using an automated library system
- Initiates proper action when a patron wishes to recall, search for, or reserve library material
- Assists patrons with preliminary research needs
- Refers in-depth research questions to a Reference Librarian
- Retrieves and shelves reserve materials
- Answers the telephone and takes messages for staff
- Performs stack maintenance activities: shelving, shifting and shelf-reading.
- Maintains patron confidentiality regarding personal information and materials borrowed
- Assists in the training of new student employees
- Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills
- Interest in and enthusiasm for helping others
- Ability to learn and use an automated circulation system and library website
- A broad knowledge of Library and Circulation services and policies
- Detailed understanding of the Library of Congress Classification System
- Successful completion of Research Training modules
