Access and Services for Persons with Special Needs
The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 require public and private educational institutions to provide equal access to all students and staff with special needs. Parking and building access
ODY Library:
A reserved parking space is available in the small parking lot directly behind the library off Park Street. There is a ramp leading to the rear entrance from this lot. Additional ADA parking spaces are available across Park Street in the F lot. The main and rear entrances to the library are barrier-free.
Launders Science Library:
ADA parking is available in the C and J lots. The library is on the second floor of Madill Hall. Enter the building through the breezeway connecting Madill and Brown Hall to access the elevator on the first floor of Madill.

Facilities
All levels of both libraries can be reached by elevator. Restrooms designated for public use are wheelchair accessible and equipped with grab bars. Computer classrooms, workstations, and photocopy rooms are wheelchair accessible. Library staff at any public service desk can assist you with using the copiers. Group study rooms are available in both libraries for those who work with a reader. Accessible telephones are available in the café on the lower level of ODY Library.
Finding and using library materials
Library staff can provide physical assistance with searching the libraries' online catalog or other electronic resources.
Library stacks are wheelchair accessible. Library staff at any public service desk can help you with retrieving materials from the shelves if you need assistance.
Adaptive technology
The computer in the special needs room on the lower level of ODY Library is loaded with Kurzweil 3000 and Dragon reading, writing, and speech recognition software. A scanner, CD burner, headset, and microphone are available for use with these programs and the computer is connected with the SLU network.
Students, staff, or faculty who wish to use the equipment in the special needs room should contact John Meagher, Director of Accommodative Services, at (315) 229-5104 or (315) 229-5623 before visiting the library.
