The First Year Council is an elected
group of students selected from the first year colleges to represent their
peers on organizing events and discussion of issues relevant to the first
year class. Two students from each first year college are elected with
in the first few weeks of the academic year. Weekly meetings are held and
executive officers are selected half way in the first semester.
The First Year Council is a great opportunity for an early leadership role
as the council members are the liaison between the larger governing group
and the 30-35 members of their first year college. In addition to executive
officers, the council also has selected representatives to Thelmo, the
student government organization and ACE, the Association for Campus Entertainment
organization.
