· participating in the "Crop Walk" fundraising efforts to relieve world hunger

· providing and delivering a home cooked meal one day each week for a family with a member suffering from cancer in their "Cooking with Care" initiative.

Habitat for Humanity
The St. Lawrence chapter of Habitat started in 1991 and has grown in size and vitality every year since then. The group has formed a coalition with the Habitat chapter at SUNY Canton to sponsor the building of their own Habitat house. They have been conducting fundraisers to raise $40,000, the amount necessary for that sponsorship. They have already secured a lot for that house in Rensselaer Falls, a town 15 mins. from campus.

In addition, the group sponsors an Alternative Spring Break Trip for a Habitat build to a location south of the North Country where it is sunnier and warmer in March. Past trips have occurred in North Carolina, Alabama, Florida, Virginia, Georgia, Louisiana and South Carolina. Next year's trip will be announced sometime in December.

Habitat members meet every Monday at 6 p.m. in the Student Center, Room 336. For more information, contact Habitat Pres. Joey Webb at jbwebb05@stlawu.edu

SLU Act!
SLU Act! serves the local community by organizing and executing programs that will make a difference in the living conditions of North Country residents, including conducting American Red Cross blood drives, working with nursing home residents, collecting school supplies for local elementary and middle school students, and distributing food from the Food Bank to those in need. The organization also reaches out internationally by sponsoring Books for Africa book drives.

For more information, contact Lucy Hannington at lghann04@stlawu.edu.

SLU Buddies
SLU Buddies is a school-based mentoring program whereby St. Lawrence students are matched one-on-one with elementary and middle school-aged children, in the Canton and St. Lawrence Central Schools, who need extra help academically, socially, and/or spiritually. Children are recommended to the program by their teachers, guidance counselors, and occasionally parents. SLU Buddies help their buddies with their homework, play in structured activities, talk about everyday occurrences, listen to concerns, and serve as tutors, mentors, role models, and friends.

SLU Buddies are required to be in the program for a minimum of 2 consecutive semesters. They meet once a week for a one hour session pre-arranged with school officials.

For more information, contact Candina Harmer, Canton Coordinator, at cmharm03@stlawu.edu, or St. Lawrence Central Coordinator, at asdaly06@stlawu.edu.
