Mission Statement
The mission for the Leadership Academy and David Garner Center for Collegiate Volunteerism (the Academy) is to create co-curricular opportunities for students to learn, develop and practice the principles of leadership and service to others in intentionally designed programs, activities, and opportunities.

Furthermore, the Academy commits to fostering in students a lifelong pursuit of personal growth, an increased capacity for leadership, and a more meaningful connection to society at large.

The Leadership Academy and Center for Volunteerism has formed a partnership with the Community Based Learning program in the formation of the Center for Civic Engagement and Leadership. The CCEL offers workshops, guest speakers, credit-bearing programs, counseling, volunteer coordination and other resources to help students develop leadership skills and service experiences.

Aims & Objectives
The Leadership Academy and Volunteer Center aim to help students develop their leadership and civic engagement abilities by:

• Using leadership skills acquired through training and/or experiential opportunities both within the university and larger community
• Reflecting on and processing of experiences, both personally and in relationship to their world
• Broadening their ability to experience and understand differences among people and their communities
• Accepting responsibility for their leadership and civic commitments and being accountable to the communities served
• Gaining the confidence and skills to develop their own initiatives in leading and serving their communities while at SLU and after graduation.
