The Wachtmeister Field Station
The Integrated Science Education Initiative (ISEI) at St. Lawrence University is pleased to announce the availability of the Wachtmeister Field Station. The latest addition to the science curriculum is available for classroom and lab use to explore the Kip Trail and Little River Nature Area.
In 2001, members of the Wachtmeister family, of Warrenton, Virginia, gave $1 million to construct and equip the Wachtmeister Field Station, now a major component of the ISEI teaching and research program. The gift came from Edward and Karen Wachtmeister; their son Erik Wachtmeister '99, Aspen, Colorado; and his brother, Carl Wachtmeister '05. Karen Wachtmeister is currently a University trustee.
Since the building opened in 2004, students of Biology, Geology, Psychology and Environmental Studies have made use of the facility and its ideal location for studying the Natural World. The building has also been used for community education events requiring an outdoor setting and a large, functional workspace.
