The Paleoecology Project
Director: Dr. Mark Erickson
Project Objectives
- Discover the limnological behavior of the Little River and its several Oxbow lakes and meanders over the course of the last 10,000 years or so.
- Create a stratigraphic sequence for the Little River Valley
- Study the paleobiology of Little River
- Reconstruct sedimentologic and geologic history of the Little River Valley
The Paleoecology Project, under the guidance of Dr. Mark Erickson, has had the goal of trying to interpret the geological and ecological history of the surrounding area, with special attention to the Little River Valley. A catalog of Oribatid mites is being compiled which will aide in the reconstruction of quarternary ecology. A large sample of mussel populations in the region is also being used to aide in the determination of ancient hydrological features such as great inland seas and long vanished rivers.
