Campus
Master Plan
Last update: February 21, 2006
Our master plan is a collection of decisions, communicated and recorded
in a series of documents. The first campus master plan was carried
out in 1986, but our present thinking begins with the Campus Master
Plan of 1997 performed under the auspices of the campus Buildings
and Grounds Committee with the professional input of Art Lidsky of
Dober, Lidsky, Craig and Associates. This document and the following
documents listed in chronological order represent our campus master
planning continuum.
A
Process for Facilities Planning (1996) (pdf file)
Sets out a proposed process for planning which was followed through
the Campus Master Plan. The paper also provided a starting point list
of “Facilities Wants/Needs” which had received some level
of attention and discussion on campus in the recent prior years.
Campus
Master Plan of 1997 (pdf file)
An elaborate analysis of our campus with respect to land and buildings
inventory with accompanying proposals and recommendations, filled
with graphic map presentations of the campus buildings and topography;
the anchor document of our plan.
Facilities
Planning Summary – October 1997 (pdf file)
A memorandum from Lidsky and Coakley to the St. Lawrence community
summarizing the process, priorities, data, and recommendations of
the Campus Master Plan of 1997.
Design
Guideline Study - 1999 (pdf file)
A consulting study performed by Art Lidsky of Dober, Lidsky, Craig
and Associates identifying (from campus discussion) design characteristics
across campus that we wish to replicate on campus and characteristics
we wish to diminish over time. This guide is shared with every architect
that is asked to consider work on campus.
Facilities
Strategy for Residential Life – February 2000 (pdf
file)
Identifies renovation and refurbishment needs in student residences
largely under-represented in the Campus Master Plan of 1997.
Facilities
Planning Revisited – September 2000 (Word document)
Reviews the planning process of 1997 and outlines the accomplishments
to date. Highlights major projects that were identified subsequent
to the 1997 plan.
Architecture
and Physical Plant Committee (Board of Trustees) Update –
April 20, 2001 (Word document)
Outlines campus reaction to the Facilities Planning Revisited –
September 2000 document, to maintain the momentum and continue on
with the facilities plan, understanding the requisite commitment of
significant funding.
The
Capital Prioritization Process – September 2003
(Word document)
Summarizes a coordinated effort between the on-campus Buildings and
Grounds Committee and the Priorities and Planning Committee to prioritize
among a number of competing capital requirements. The process recognized
the growing limitations on University capital investment capability
and reaffirmed a priority order of the Sciences Phase I, annual capital
at a level of $6 million, and the Arts Phase I and future arts phases
as gifts allow.
