Configuring your SLU network settings
Windows Vista (all versions)
- Log into the computer as you normally would
- -- Map your P: (personal) Drive --
- Double-click on My Computer or click on the Start Menu and then click on Computer
- At the top of the window click on the Map Network Drive button
- When the window opens, select Drive P: from the drop down menu
- Under Folder: type: \\myslu\username (where username is your network username)
- Click on "Connect using a different user name"
- For User Name: type: stlawu\username (where username is your network username)
- For Password: type, your network password (same as your email password)
- Click OK
- Click Finish
- -- Map the T: (Teaching) Drive --
- At the top of the window click on the Map Network Drive button
- When the window opens, select Drive T: from the drop down menu
- Under Folder: type: \\ourslu\classes
- Click on "Connect using a different user name"
- For User Name: type: stlawu\username (where username is your network username)
- For Password: type, your network password (same as your email password)
- Click OK
- Click Finish
Windows XP:
- Log into computer as you normally would
- Close any open programs
- Double-click on My Computer
- Double-click the Control Panel
- Double-click Network Connections
- Right-click on Local Area Connection, choose Properties
- If the Client for Microsoft Networks is not listed (detail), perform the following (shaded) steps; otherwise, proceed with setup
- Click Start
- Choose Run, and type \\Saint\Public\SLU Network Setup (detail)
- Type in your SLU Network Username and password (stlawu\username)
- Click OK
- Copy the SLU file into the following location on your computer: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup folder
- Copy the SLU Network Resources and SLU Web Mail shortcuts to your desktop
- If your username and password on your computer do not match your SLU network username and password do the following steps:
- Choose Run, and type \\Saint\Public\SLU Network Setup (detail)
- Double click the renameuser.vbs script
- Enter your SLU network username and password when prompted (you will be asked to enter your password twice)
- Reboot when prompted
- Double-click on My Computer
- Double-click Control Panel
- Double-click System
- Click the Computer Name tab, choose Change
- Change the computer name to your firstnamelastname (no spaces) (ex. JohnDoe)
- Change the Workgroup to STLAWU (detail)
- Click OK
- Reboot your computer
- Log in normally with your SLU network username and password
Change network password:
- Use the password change form
- Use a SLU workstation
- Press and hold Ctrl / Alt / Delete on your keyboard
- From the Windows Security window, choose Change Password
- In the specified spaces, type your existing password, your new password, and confirm the new password by typing it again
- Click OK
