Michael Temkin, Associate Professor of Biology and Chair of Faculty Council
Remarks at Inauguration of President William L. Fox
October 24, 2009
President Fox, last fall when you visited our campus, it was clear that you knew what St. Lawrence had been. You spoke with great passion about your undergraduate experience here and how you had been influenced by legendary St. Lawrence Professors, such as Lee Professor of History Robert Carlisle and Professor of English Rutherford "Doc" Delmage. Since you and Lynn moved to Canton this summer, you have been reacquainting yourself with St. Lawrence and meeting the students, faculty and staff. Last fall, I don’t think that we truly knew what you meant when you told us “that you liked to get out of your office and meet people.” I have heard faculty, students, and staff all relate stories about how much they have enjoyed meeting you, whether it was eating a meal with you at the Dana Dining Hall or having a conversation with you as you walked across campus. I think my favorite story is that you have been running with our sports teams. This is clearly an excellent indication that you have the stamina required to serve as the president of St. Lawrence University. On behalf of the Faculty, welcome and congratulations on becoming the 18th President of St. Lawrence University. We look forward to working with you as we continue building on our tradition of academic excellence and offering our students a college experience that is truly amazing.
