Emily Hunt Forbes ’04

From St. Lawrence to a national nonprofit organization, Emily Hunt Forbes ’04 has excelled in many roles while giving back to her community.

A multi-field major in political science, government, economics, sociology and psychology, Forbes is a partnerships manager at Management Leadership for Tomorrow (MLT), a leading career development institute for high-potential minorities.

“We help people create a career road map with guidance to develop the hard and soft business skills that you need – the key ingredients,” she said.

Forbes generates revenue and oversees partnerships with NBC, Nielson, Time Warner, and the National Football League, among other corporations. She also manages the MLT alumni fund.

“Not only do I wear those hats, but I’ve done different projects outside that realm,” she said. “Being in a small organization, you get to see and be a part of all the different pieces. You feel connected to people.”

Forbes was one of six alumni who participated in the spring 2012 Laurentians in Residence career panel. She also conducted informational interviews with students during her visit to campus.

“We had an opening dinner with students, faculty and staff, which was a great chance to talk with people in the Student Alumni Association,” she said. “They were really engaged and asked very good questions.”

Forbes said that speaking with current students about her career path and answering their questions is just one of the many ways she supports St. Lawrence.

When we think about giving back, we think about making a donation. But you can give back to St. Lawrence in a lot of ways, like by volunteering as an admissions interviewer, which I do. It’s very interesting,” she says.  “I think Laurentians in Residence gives a group of alumni a chance to come back and interact with students in a very meaningful way.”
