Christian Ehrhardt’s experience as an EMT at St. Lawrence reaffirmed his interest in law enforcement. A 2007 graduate, Ehrhardt is a special agent for the Diplomatic Security Service in Iraq.
During his time at St. Lawrence, Ehrhardt was heavily involved in a variety of emergency service activities both on and off campus. In addition to being an EMT on campus, he was a Canton Fire Department volunteer and worked with the St. Lawrence County Fire Investigation Team. His experience also extends to his hometown of Manhasset, N.Y., where he continues to work as an EMT and volunteer firefighter, and to New York City, where he interned for two summers during college at the Department of Investigation.
As a government major and French minor at St. Lawrence, he says that his “studies and experiences on St. Lawrence’s program in France and Senegal helped develop a strong interest in the Foreign Service.” Also trained in the fields of arson investigation and weapons of mass destruction identification while in college, Ehrhardt points out that he was able to utilize his education so as to combine all of his interests into a viable career.
In his advice to students about how a St. Lawrence education can help lead to a career in emergency services, he stresses the importance of being able to “communicate effectively, manage personnel and programs, and analyze complex situations.” These skills come as a result of a commitment to one’s studies, he says, pointing out their necessity in future success in any endeavor.
Ehrhardt was also a member of the Student Judiciary Board at St. Lawrence. Since graduation, while not overseas he has been busy giving lectures about “collegiate emergency medicine and personnel development and leadership,” based on the knowledge he acquired at St. Lawrence.
