Several St. Lawrence faculty and staff
members have come together to plan a multi-day campus conference on climate
change for March 21-25, 2011. Entitled "climate: CHANGE: acting together
on sustainability, climate change and environmental justice," the event
will engage faculty, students, staff, and the surrounding community. The
conference will feature notable presenters on environmental issues: Michelle
Roberts, Foster Brown, Jerry Jenkins and Bill McKibben and will include a poster competition for local middle and high school students on issues of climate change, a film festival dealing with social and environmental issues and an art installation with recycled materials.
Michelle Roberts, Campaign & Policy Coordinator for Advocates for Environmental Human Rights in Washington, D.C., will be our first presenter; her talk is entitled "The Politics of Climate Change: Innovative Legal Justice Advocacy."
Foster Brown, environmental geochemist and senior scientist, Woods Hole Institute, is coming to give a talk on "Climate Change and Its Synergies With Global Environmental Change."
Jerry Jenkins, who is the founder & director of the White Creek Field School and an expert in botanical survey and forest ecology, will present on "Climate Change in the Adirondacks."
Author, leading environmentalist, and Schumann Distinguished Scholar at Middlebury College Bill McKibben will speak on "Global and Local: Updates from the Climate Fight."
