David
Officer ’67 and his wife Joan have an annual dinner
for St. Lawrence alumni who interned under his supervision over the
years. Pretty
soon, the Officers will need to rent a banquet hall to accommodate
the crowd.
Senior Vice President for Permal Asset Management in New York, NY,
David Officer has for decades made a place for a St. Lawrence intern
every January. At last count, over 60 graduates have
worked with David and most of them would credit him with
a central role in their careers.
David has worked in business since graduation, first in the finance
division of two corporations and then in the finance industry itself.
From his earliest days, he’s had an international perspective
to his work and has managed staff in offices from London,
Paris, and Frankfurt to Tokyo, Hong Kong and Singapore. He gained
skills working with a variety of people while he was a student at
St. Lawrence, where he was involved with Greek life and with student
government.
As a graduate, David has done it all for St. Lawrence.
If sponsoring over 40 interns were not contribution enough, he has
been an admissions and fundraising volunteer, an alumni club officer,
a member of the Alumni Council and a trustee of the University.
A lasting symbol of his devotion to his alma mater is the Officer
Lilac Garden, planted and maintained in memory of his parents and
step-father.
