Molly Mullady ’91 cheers for her career. Molly never
played a sport at St. Lawrence, but she could often be found in the
stands cheering. Today, Molly not only continues to cheer on the
Saints; she also cheers for the team she works as Director
of New Business Development (Corporate Sponsorship) for
the Philadelphia Eagles, the 2005 NFL’s National Football Conference
champions.
Many alumni say St. Lawrence is where they developed ideas
about what they wanted to do with their lives. Molly realized what
she wanted to do on her last day as she listened to Mark McCormack,
the father of sports marketing, speaking at her Commencement.
“He said that everyone has a ‘genius’ that
they are better at than everyone else,” she recalls, “and that we
owed it to ourselves to find it.” She discovered she wanted to do exactly
that, and soon began working for McCormick at the International Management Group.
At St. Lawrence
where she double majored in Spanish and government, Molly
learned how to communicate and socialize with people from
different backgrounds, and her writing and vocabulary improved dramatically. “I also
learned not to take myself so seriously,” she states. “You have to
have a sense of humor in the business world. It’s essential; otherwise,
others will break down your sense of self.”
She thinks of St. Lawrence fondly, remembering a “powerful sense
of community.” To this day, she is astonished when she comes
across other St. Lawrence alumni. “It’s remarkable how
small St. Lawrence is, but how far the people who went there get in
life,” she says.
