Julia
Love ’98 says she’s been is something of a nomad.
An “Army brat”, she sang at the Vatican with the Laurentian
Singers and studied abroad in Vienna
during her time at St. Lawrence. This perhaps explains why she moved
to London, where she is now the Dean of Admissions at ACS
Egham International School, Surrey, England.
Egham is similar to schools she went to as a child, and she enjoys “using
my own experiences and understanding to help them get settled.” After
graduation with a sociology major and an education minor,
she had worked at a girls’ boarding school and another private
school in Washington, D.C. (her hometown), after passing the New
York State teaching exam.
But moving to a foreign country is not the only risk Julia has taken.
She is at least a decade younger than others with her professional
position, but is weathering the challenges. “St. Lawrence
teaches people to make the best of things, to be very creative …
[and] stimulated by each other,” she says.
Regarding her St. Lawrence experience and its effect on her life,
she says she was inspired by the “incredible women” around
her at Kappa Delta Sigma sorority. Her advisor, Ron Flores, “walks
on water,” she says, and most importantly, made her feel passionate
about education.
She cites an atmosphere that fosters personal growth as one
of St. Lawrence’s strengths: “It allowed me to
understand that you don’t have to be narrowly focused. You can
always continue to be a student; it inspired me to continue to learn,”
she says.
Julia has been an active member of the alumni network, and was
her 5th-year reunion chair.
