Brigid Hayes '02, economics and psychology major
turned personnel professional, is human resources coordinator for
Guy Carpenter & Co., the world’s leading reinsurance intermediary,
according to its website.
“I was given a lot when I was at St. Lawrence,” she
says. She took advantage of St. Lawrence’s strong study abroad
program to travel to Vienna, Austria, where
she observed the meshing of many European cultures and learned some
German. She also says St. Lawrence honed her communication skills,
which are a critical asset in the business world, as she notes. Brigid
also was a member of the women’s soccer team and Kappa
Delta Sigma sorority.
She has offered her time as a volunteer in many capacities. Last spring
she returned to campus from her home in New York City to participate
in a panel discussion for the Senior Transition Series. She also offers
support to recent graduates, giving advice about moving to
the city or navigating the business world. Her efforts strengthen the
alumni network, a resource Brigid benefited from herself. She got
her job through a St. Lawrence alumni connection, and has
found the alumni network invaluable for meeting people and “getting
perspective on the working world.”
