Life is busy for new business owner Eliza Brown ’03.
Just two years out of college, she founded her own business, WedBoston,
with her best friend. The company dubs itself “a fresh approach
to wedding planning,” a profession that makes perfect sense
for the double major in sociology and fine arts.
She came to St. Lawrence for its “sense of community,” but
that’s not all she got. According to Eliza, “In every
one of the classes, I grew so much. I had such a voice [at St. Lawrence].” She
also cites a “phenomenal advisor” and alumni networking
as crucial parts of her St. Lawrence education.
During her time at St. Lawrence, she interned for event planners
at a wedding site. This gave her practical experience that got her
a great position at Gourmet Catering in Boston, where she did event
sales and event planning for two years. Eventually she decided that
she would like to run her own business as a wedding planner, and
is now making that dream a reality.
When asked what advice she would give to young alumni or future
graduates, she says, “Take every opportunity [you] can outside
of St. Lawrence … opportunities outside of the classroom,
and internships. Use the alumni network.”
