President F. King Alexander ‘87 is a
national leader in higher education. He is not only the President –elect
of California State University at Long Beach he is also at the forefront
of his field, higher educational research. He recently testified
to the U.S. Congress on the subject of university affordability, and
was invited to participate in the assessment of higher education
reforms in Canberra, Australia last fall. Additionally, he sits on
the advisory committee of the American Council on Education (ACE)
Center for Policy Analysis in Washington, D.C.
Dr. Alexander received
his B.A. in government from St. Lawrence, M.S.
in Comparative Education Policy from the University of Oxford (England) and his
Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration from the University of Wisconsin – Madison.
He held several teaching, administrative and research positions at the University
of Wisconsin-Madison and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Alexander
has been the president at Murray State University in Kentucky since 2001
He has published numerous articles in journals of higher education.
His research has been recognized by the Chronicle of Higher Education,
the Christian Science Monitor and the Economist. He was
elected to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign's "Incomplete
Listing of Excellent Teachers" five times.
