Dr. Calvin F. Exoo is a specialist in the politics of the mass media. He is the author of Democracy Upside Down: Public Opinion and Cultural Hegemony in the United States and of The Politics of the Mass Media. His most recent book is entitled Media 9/11: Press, War and Terror in the 21st Century, due from Sage Publishers in 2007. His numerous articles and commentaries on the politics of the media have appeared in such publications as the New York Times, The Times of London, the Chicago Tribune, the Los Angeles Times, Polity, New Political Science, and The Journal of Politics. For 2006-07, Dr. Exoo has been named as a recipient of the Sidore Lectureship, awarded by the University of New Hampshire, on "The Challenges of Democracy." Recently, Dr. Exoo spent a sabbatical year in Ireland, examining the impact of American Media on European culture. In his spare time, Dr. Exoo has been active in local social movements. He is originally from Wisconsin, and remains a major cheesehead / Packers, Brewers, Bucks and Badgers fan.
