John Collins, Assistant Professor of Global Studies, received his Ph.D. and M.A. in Comparative Studies in Discourse and Society from the University of Minnesota and his B.A. from Wesleyan University.  He is the co-editor, with Ross Glover, of Collateral Language: A User's Guide to America's New War and the author of Occupied by Memory: The Intifada Generation and the Palestinian State of Emergency (published in 2002 and 2004, respectively, by New York University Press). In addition to courses on the Middle East, he teaches thematic and conceptual courses on globalization, nationalism, cultural studies theory, and mass media criticism. During the Spring 2004 he co-taught, with Patricia Alden, a special senior seminar devoted to the work of Edward Said. He is also currently teaching in the University's First Year Program.
