Collins gives Global Palestine lecture at UVM
Following the publication of his book Global Palestine, Professor and Chair of Global Studies John Collins recently gave a public lecture at the University of Vermont in Burlington. Titled "Palestine: Laboratory of the Future?", the lecture explored the relationship between settler colonialism and securitization, with a particular focus on how the encounter between Palestinian resistance movements and the Israeli state during the "long 1960s" helped lay the groundwork for today's borderless "global war on terrorism."
The lecture was recorded for broadcast by two local cable stations in Burlington, and video of the full lecture and Q&A period is available here via Channel 17/Town Meeting Television:
Collins' lecture was organized by Vermonters for a Just Peace in Palestine/Israel with support from several student groups at UVM. It was part of the Will Miller Social Justice Lecture Series as well as the "War & Peace Since 9/11" lecture series sponsored by the Institute for Civic Engagement at Burlington College.
