Why
We Give
Krista Snizek '08 , Student
and Scholarship Recipient
An honors graduate of Saranac Lake High School, Krista Snizek’08
is an Augsbury/North Country Scholar. Recipients are nominated
by their high schools within the Adirondack/North Country region
and southern Ontario.
“It means a lot just to be considered for a scholarship such as this,” she says. “It gives me a chance to get a great education here at St. Lawrence, when I otherwise would be unable to afford it.”
A
sophomore, Krista has not declared a major yet, but says she is pursuing
a major in global studies with a concentration in Asian studies,
along with a minor in gender studies.
She also intends to participate in St. Lawrence’s academic program in Japan.
Outside
of the classroom, Krista is a co-founder of the women's soccer club and
a member of the Dance Ensemble, serves on the Judicial
Appeals Board and
is a peer advocate.
During summers, she works at the University’s Canaras
Conference
Center in
the Adirondacks.
To
Krista, the best thing about being a St. Lawrence student is “The
opportunities available to me, and the close-knit community I
have found with both my peers and professors.” After college,
she hopes to travel, “make a difference to someone, and plan
work with battered women around the globe.”
