Like all students, Kait Reyell ’09 benefits daily from the generosity of donors to the Annual Fund. The third-generation Laurentian from Saranac Lake, NY, and graduate of Saranac Lake High School chose St. Lawrence after a rigorous search because “the campus had gorgeous buildings and great programs. I was also impressed by the warmth and approachability of the faculty,” she says. It was a friendly place, and I could see myself being there.”
An Augsbury North Country Scholar and a Community Scholar, Kait says “the most meaningful experience for me at St. Lawrence has been being a member of Kappa Delta Sigma sorority. The women are my family away from home. Doing community service, and doing it together, is always rewarding.”
Kait, a performance and communication arts major, says that her First-Year Program course Our Communities, Ourselves was one of her favorites. “It combined learning about the different communities each of us lived in, along with community service in the Canton area,” she explains. “I found the service aspect very rewarding, and learned a great deal about the unexpected similarities and differences among us all as a class. We found we had similar interests and we have remained good friends throughout our college years.”
As she begins her senior year, Kait has her thoughts focused on a career in broadcasting. “
I'm very grateful for the opportunities St. Lawrence has provided me, both academically and socially,” she says. “I'm wiser, more tolerant of others and unafraid to tackle whatever obstacles may rise before me.”
