Amber Coulombe Ostrowski ‘07 followed the Piskor example by contributing to her native North Country. The Frank and Anne Piskor Scholarship was created by the Piskors to help young women from the North Country attend St. Lawrence. Amber, who is from Copenhagen, NY, has found her own ways to leave her mark on campus. She has
worked closely with Dr. Judith DeGroat in history, researching the Armenian community in Massena, NY. “I enjoyed my time researching, getting to know some of the Armenian families in the North Country, and preserving the history of the Armenian community that shaped the culture of the North Country,” she says.
Amber has worked in local schools and is
completing her
professional semester by student teaching at Carthage High School. She
also has worked in the Admissions
office. “The work I do in Admissions has been most
meaningful during my time here at St. Lawrence,” she says.
“Meeting and helping prospective students and listening to
the wonderful stories alumni share with me have made me realize
that
St. Lawrence really is a special community that will remain
important to me throughout my life.”
Amber is grateful for the opportunities that the Frank and Anne Piskor Scholarship has given her. “The scholarship has been vital to me attending St. Lawrence,” she says. “I have learned of their generosity and continued support of St. Lawrence and the Canton community.
The scholarship gave me the opportunity to attend the University, an opportunity I may not have otherwise received.”
