Danzel Blash ’13

“The best part about St. Lawrence is that you’re always surrounded by good people,” Danzel Blash ’13 says.

The Bronx, N.Y. native says being at St. Lawrence has inspired him to get involved on campus and in the community. He works for the University’s Calling All Saints (CAS) program, calling alumni and asking them to give to their alma mater. In the spring 2012 semester, Blash made the final phone call to help CAS surpass its goal of $750,000.

He notes that he’s learned a lot about St. Lawrence through his work. “One of the perks is getting to know other alumni and talking to them about me and what’s happening on campus,” he says. “Some alumni play games and even ask us to sing the alma mater. One time an alum opened up the most recent magazine and said if I answered his three questions correctly he’d pledge $1,000. I got them all right.”

Blash believes every minute he spends placing a call makes a difference. “The money we raise helps every part of St. Lawrence,” he says. “As an alum, you’ve got to do something. Whether it’s giving a monetary donation, volunteering or sharing your experience, it’s important to give back.”

The performance and communication arts major will one day be on the other end of the phone, getting the call himself. “I’m looking forward to taking my first Calling All Saints call as an alumnus,” he says. “I’ll always make sure to contribute what I can.”
