Beneficiaries of Support
Selim
Tay-Agbozo ’07 of Ghana credits
the Crandells as the first of many alumni who are shaping his life.
“I want the Crandells to know that I am very grateful to them
for enabling me to successfully accomplish another step in my life.
I left my homeland, Ghana, to better myself in the US and thanks
to the benevolence of the Crandells, they have enabled me
to make lasting connections and also to mature greatly.
What makes the Crandells special is the fact that they can willingly
give to SLU to better the lives of students, such as myself, that
they have never met. The Crandells are indeed special people and
I will always be grateful and indebted to them,” says Selim.
Selim has quite a St. Lawrence resume proving his assertions that
he’s made lasting connections. The economics major and European
studies minor has studied at American University in Washington DC and
has had an internship with Ameriprise Financial.
Academics are center stage with Selim, but not his entire SLU experience. He’s
been a member of the African Student Union, Model UN, Amnesty International,
the Investment Club, and the intramural soccer and basketball teams. He’s
also worked as technical intern< and the Brush Alumni House
student manager.
What about St. Lawrence makes him most proud? “SLUs
culture of teamwork makes me most proud. When I first
arrived at SLU last year, I was immediately approached by SLU students
who took me under the wing. It made no difference that many of
these students were seniors. This generosity continues even after
they graduated. While in the process of interviewing for various
companies for a summer internship, alumni who were seniors when
I first arrived at SLU offered to let me stay in their apartments
while I go through the interview process. Even alumni who
I have never met called or emailed me to advise me on the selection
of companies to work for and to offer me any help should the need
arise. Such generosity is synonymous with SLU and this
is why I am proud to be a Laurentian,” he says.
