John Loughlin ’79 and Darlene Jeris Pledge $1.2 Million,
Most to Endowment
John P. Loughlin’79 and his wife, Darlene M. Jeris, have pledged $1.2 million to Momentum St. Lawrence, as a “reflection of our strong feelings of support for the mission and activities of St. Lawrence University.” $1 million is an irrevocable bequest and $200,000 is in outright gifts; $1.1 million will be invested into endowment while the balance will strengthen the St. Lawrence Fund.
“Darlene and I believe passionately in the value of liberal arts education -- the gifts it bestows on its recipients, but also the promise it carries in educating and empowering individuals to take on society's challenges,” said Loughlin. “I feel very privileged to be able to give back a small measure of what I have taken away from my St. Lawrence experience."
Loughlin is executive vice president and general manager of Hearst Magazines, which publishes titles ranging from
Good Housekeeping and
Cosmopolitan to
Popular Mechanics and
Town & Country. He previously oversaw the print and online components of
TV Guide, and was instrumental in its successful conversion into a full-size, full-color magazine. He has been a University trustee, Alumni Executive Council member, Reunion fundraising volunteer, media advisor and career advisor and, with his wife, a generous supporter, already the benefactor of the John ’79 and Darlene Jeris Loughlin Center for International and Intercultural Fellows Endowment. Loughlin received an Alumni Citation in 2007.
