Science Gifts to the St. Lawrence Fund
Planned Gifts
With an April 1, 2007 fundraising deadline, St. Lawrence has met the Kresge Foundation Challenge and received a $1 Million grant from The Kresge Foundation of Troy, Mich. A total of 699 donors responded to the challenge to raise just over $4.1 million in new gifts and pledges for construction of the new 115,000-square-foot Johnson Hall of Science. Oversubscribing the fundraising goal, the grand total raised was $4,566,106 from 37 Trustees, 72 faculty and staff, 18 corporations, 561 alumni, parents, and friends, and 10 foundations and organizations. The fundraising challenge was initiated in September 2005, when the Kresge Foundation approved a $1 million challenge grant.
In response to the grant, St. Lawrence President Daniel F. Sullivan stated, “We are now embarking on our largest and most expensive building project to date and feel confident that we will meet the challenge that the foundation has set forth. I thank the Kresge Foundation for their generous past support, and am very grateful for this expression of their faith in our future.”

There are many different ways for you to help enhance our students’ educational experiences in the sciences – from gifts for “bricks and mortar,” endowment, operating support, and through your estate planning.  Gifts
for Construction:
- Honor a loved one or favorite faculty member by naming an office, lab, majors’ room, conference area, or other space in the new state-of-the-art building in her or his honor. Attractive and highly-visible naming opportunities in the building start at $50,000 – and can be paid over five years.

Gifts for Science Endowment:
- Support student research and attendance at professional meetings. Start or add to an endowed fund for a science department, science fellowships, or faculty/student science research – opportunities start at $25,000 and can be paid over five years.
- Support excellent teaching and special learning opportunities. Your leadership gift in support of academic excellence in the sciences can fund a professorship, lectureship, research symposium or the Festival of Sciences. Opportunities start at $100,000 and can be paid over five years.
- Fund a scholarship and help a student in the sciences afford his or her St. Lawrence education. Endowed scholarship funds start at $75,000 and can be paid over five years.

Science Gifts to the St. Lawrence
Fund:
- Show your alumni support – and help St. Lawrence in two important ways: (1) your gift will help support science education; and (2) your gift will help St. Lawrence increase its alumni participation rate – a measurement national magazines use in their college ranking systems.
