Momentum St. Lawrence
Faculty-Staff Campaign: FAQ
Who gives through the Faculty and Staff Campaign?
All St. Lawrence faculty and staff participate in the Faculty/Staff Campaign. If you are also an alumna/us of St. Lawrence, your gift to the Faculty/Staff campaign will also be counted in alumni participation rates.

I already work here, why should I give?
People give to support St. Lawrence for different reasons. Some give out of appreciation for St. Lawrence or because they want the University to remain one of the top liberal arts institutions in the country. Others give because they feel a responsibility and desire to support current students. Some give because they want St. Lawrence to improve, to become an even better University.

The participation of many employees will show alumni and others that we believe in St. Lawrence and support its future. An institution's faculty and staff giving percentage is weighed by corporations and foundations when awarding grants. It is believed that faculty and staff who appreciate and value the work that a university is doing will support that institution with their giving.

There are some policies at St. Lawrence that I don't agree with, so why should I give?
It is inevitable that not everyone will agree with every action of the University. Disagreeing with a particular choice the University has made does not mean you do not support St. Lawrence overall. If there are policies that you disagree with, we hope you will voice your opinions. We do hope you will also continue to support St. Lawrence.

Can I designate my gift?
Yes. You can designate your gift to St. Lawrence to a variety of areas. Some choose to support financial aid and scholarships, the arts facilities project, the sciences facilities project, University Fellows, the Employee Emergency Fund or Faculty Research and Professional Development. Others choose to support a specific department, fund, or program. You can also choose to make their gifts in honor of another faculty or staff member. Your gift directly benefits the area you select. Simply note your preference on the gift form.

Can I designate my gift to more than one area?
Yes. Clearly note on the payroll deduction or gift form how much you want to give to each area.

How much should I give?
Any gift, regardless of size, is important. Your participation and establishing an annual tradition of giving at any level is what is most important.

Can I make an anonymous gift?
Yes. Simply note your preference on the payroll deduction or gift form.

Can I make a gift jointly with my spouse?
Yes. Indicate on the gift form that your gift is made jointly.

How can I give?
You may give by payroll deduction, check, or by credit card.

I have already made a gift this year. Will it count toward this campaign?
Yes. Gifts made by employees to the University either through the St. Lawrence Fund or directly to a program or department count when we calculate faculty and staff participation rates.

What if my spouse works for a matching gift company?
Some donors are affiliated with a company that has a matching gift program. You can take advantage of the matching gift database offered on the Alumni and Parent Programs web site at http://www.matchinggifts.com/slu/ This site will help you determine if your spouse's employer is a matching gift company and understand the specific match requirements.

Can I create a planned gift?
A planned, or deferred, gift is one that will come to the University through your estate or one that is made now to create a gift-with-income plan. Almost all planned gifts will count with the proper documentation. Click for further information on planned gifts.
