Lab in Johnson Hall of Science Honors Grant Cornwell ’39.
A student/faculty biochemistry research laboratory in the new Johnson Hall of Science bears the name of Grant H. Cornwell ’39. The honor was made possible through the generosity of Jill Hansen Humphries ’72 and Alfred “Mac” Humphries, parents of Alfred ’08 and Julia ’10, who made a gift commitment of $230,000 to Momentum St. Lawrence. What’s the connection between Laurentians who graduated 33 years apart? Jill explains, “Grant Cornwell helped me secure a job at IBM. He is the epitome of an elevated work ethic, with tremendous love for his family and friends, and the drive to help others. We wanted to recognize him so that students for generations to come can have a clear idea of what really counts in life.”
Jill continues, “I wanted to use my IBM stock to show Grant that his efforts have completely influenced my life. Considering the influence of Grant at IBM, it seemed most fitting that the biochemical research lab be dedicated to him.”
