Welcome to SLU's Internet Map Server

An Internet Map Server, or IMS, is a collection of hardware and software that allows GIS Layers to be interactively queried and displayed over the internet. Our IMS is powered by ESRI's ArcIMS Software.

Map Services for Courses

General Biology Viewer
This site provides access to a number of datasets near the SLU campus for General Biology students. Students can view their area of interest, print maps and explore the nearby geology, vegetation and trail network.

Ecology of Lakes and Rivers
Provides watershed and lake information for two of the major lakes of St. Lawrence County, Cranberry Lake and Black Lake.

Geologic Outcrop Data Repository and Map Server
With content focused (initially) on classic localities in the North Country of New York, this website is designed to provide you with the opportunity to explore and learn about the geology behind a range of outcrop exposures in this area. The main page has more details.

Geology 320: Regional Field Studies of Curacao
Geology 320: Regional Field Studies has been intermittently offered by the Department of Geology. This spring Geology 320, was for the first time run to Curacao.  By design, this was a full credit course that entailed brief pre-field experience commitments, the 9 day field component, and a more substantial set of post-travel seminar sessions. North Country Pluralism Project
As part of Harvard University's Pluralism Project, students of Mark McWilliams FYP examined religious organizations in the North Country to explore local religious diversity.

Surficial Geology of Northern New York
This map service provides access to geology information, aerial photography and USGS topography for northern New York. Common sites for study are clearly marked.

Brown College Trail Project
Trail maps and photgraphs of Lampson Falls, Donnerville State Forest and Wolf and Huckleberry Lakes. All of the mapping was done by the students of Brown College FYP.

Sociology/Environmental Studies 253 - Race, Class, and Environmental Justice
This collection of map services illustrates the relationship between Toxic Releases and several socio-economic indicators such as income, poverty and race.

Save the River - Sampling Sites
Displays water quality information for sites sampled by Save the River volunteers.

Map Services by Students

Historic Maps of Canton
Jonas Landes '05 created a map server investigating cultural changes in the township of Canton, 1865-2004. For details on how the map was constructed, check out the project description.

National Park Regional Population
Matt Coleman '06 studied the population increases in a number of National Park gateway communities since 1960. He looked at three parks: Yellowstone, Great Smokey Mountains and Denali.

Lost Ski Areas of Western Massachusetts
Jared Newell '05 completed a GIS project locating out-of service ski areas in Massachusetts and compling the results in a map service.
