Arizona Laserchron Laboratory in Tucson Arizona

Geology students Hillary Hagen-Peter (’14) and Thomas Lockwood (’14) accompanied Professor Jeff Chiarenzelli and colleague Dr. Bruce Selleck (Colgate University) to the Arizona Laserchron Laboratory in Tucson Arizona. While at the University of Arizona (ranked the #1 Geology Program in the country) the group analyzed a variety of zircon from samples in the Adirondack Region. They were able to date many of the classic mineral localities in St. Lawrence County. The accompanying photograph shows them operation the Laser Ablation- Multi-Collector Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometer (LA-MC-ICPMS) used to ablate zircons and measure their isotopic composition. Hillary is waiting to hear from graduate schools and Thomas will be attending the University of Montana at Bozeman.
