First Year Cup FAQs

How do I earn points? How does scoring work?

Do you know that there are TWO competitions in the FY Cup? To learn more about how to earn points for the team competition and the individual competition, as well as how to WIN click here.

How do I find out what events I can attend to earn points?

There are several ways!

  •  Upcoming Events page
  • Weekly events emails send by FY Cup coordinator
  • SLUWire
  • Student Center Calendar (by the main doors)
  • Check with your CAs or FYP professors!

Don't forget to SIGN IN at the door when you attend an event so we know you were there! You can only sign yourself in, not other members of your FYP. Any FYPs caught cheating will lose their points and be eliminated from the team competition.

How do I make an event eligible?

If you wish your event to be considered for First-Year Cup eligibility, you must send information about the event to Laura Lavoie at llavoie@stlawu.edu.  Please review the full details for submissions found here.

Intramurals:

Intramural sports are coordinated through the intramural office. Participating FYPs must have a captain so that the intramural staff can contact them with game times and a location. Intramural rules and schedules can be found here.

Standings:

Standings are updated on a bi-weekly basis.  Standings will be emailed to the first-year class as they become available.

How long does the competition last?

Team Competition: Begins Friday during the first week of classes and ends the Friday prior to Thanksgiving break. Results will be announced in December.

Individual Competition: Starts on the first Saturday of the semester. You can earn points by attending eligible events through the Friday prior to Thanksgiving break, but results won't be announced until after the Dean's List is posted in January!
