St. Lawrence University is pleased to offer you the ability to complete and sign your Federal Stafford Loan Master Promissory Note (MPN) electronically. Your electronic Master Promissory Note (e-MPN) is a multi-year note. The e-MPN you will sign will be good for all Federal Stafford Loan funds you borrow at St. Lawrence in subsequent semesters as long as you remain with the same lender.

1. Log onto www.hesc.com.
2. Click on the link for "Students, Families, and Counselors", and select "Complete the e-MPN"
3. Be sure to have your driver's license number, reference information, and your HescPIN on hand. If you have not previously obtained a HescPIN number, you will be able to set one up further into the process.
4. Select the proper e-MPN process and apply (NOTE: You should select the Stafford process, not the GradPLUS or Parent PLUS loan processes).
5. Read the Disclosure statement.
6. Give consent to use electronic records for your MPN. (NOTE: If you do not want to complete an e-MPN, you have the option to print a paper MPN at this point, and proceed with the application process manually).
7. HESC will authenticate your identity by way of your HescPIN. If you do not have a HescPIN, you will be prompted to apply for one at this point.
8. Select your education level (Undergraduate or Graduate student), and select St. Lawrence University as the Institution you are attending.
9. Complete your e-MPN. In this step, you must enter all your demographic and reference information and select the lender you would like to use. St. Lawrence's Lender Options List will appear in the drop-down box. If you would like to use a lender that is not on our Lender Options List , select "for more lenders select this item then press enter". If you select this option, you will have access to view, and select, any lender that HESC works with. If you still do not see the lender you would like to use, you may print a paper MPN, complete it manually with the lender of your choice, and mail it to the St. Lawrence University Financial Aid Office.
10. Review a draft of your e-MPN.
11. Sign your e-MPN. You will need to review the borrower certification and authorization, and finally sign your e-MPN.
12. Print your e-MPN. Please be sure to print a copy of your MPN for your records.
13. Complete your Stafford Loan Entrance Counseling. Follow the link to the Mapping Your Future website to complete your Entrance Counseling. Your Stafford Loan funds cannot be disbursed until you complete the mandatory Entrance Counseling. Mapping Your Future will notify St. Lawrence when you have completed this requirement.
