Faculty Profiles
Anne Csete

History Professor Anne Csete transformed a family passion into a successful career.  “History runs in my family,” Csete explains. “My Hungarian immigrant grandfather was the neighborhood story-teller and my father is also a huge history buff.”

This native of the Finger Lakes Region studied the history of women, China, Africa and Russia in college at SUNY Oswego, and furthered her interest by joining the St. Lawrence faculty in 1995. She teaches East Asia survey courses, and upper-level courses in Chinese and Japanese history, and elementary Chinese language courses.
“My favorite part about working here is talking about history with my students, and also watching my Chinese language students get better every week with their Chinese,” Csete says.

“I enjoy talking to students about their career goals and academic plans.”

Csete is a member of the St. Lawrence University concert band as a clarinetist.  “I’m a big fan of the other musical ensembles here, and I love to go to student drama productions too,” she says.

Off campus, Csete enjoys horseback-riding, flower gardening, and hiking and canoeing in the Adirondacks.
